라오스국내항공기 추락 (2000.10.20)
라오스의 수도인 비엔티안과 북쪽지방인 삼느아를(수도로부터 350Km) 운행하는 라오항공소속 비행기 QV-701기가 (17인승 쌍발프로펠러기, 기종 중국산 Y-12) 10.19일 비엔티안을 출발하여 삼느아공항에 착륙하던중 급류에 휘말려 추락하였다. 이사고로 탑승객 15명중 7명이 사망하였고 8명이 부상하였는데 그중 3명은 중태인 것으로 전해졌다.
사망한 8명은 라오인 5명과 싱가포르, 독일, 남아프리카인이 각 1명씩이며 생존한 부상자들도 인도인 4명을 포함하여 주로 외국인이라고 라오항공은 발표하였다.
라오스에 상주하는 서방국가대사관에서는 자국민들에게 노후되고 잦은 사고를 일으키는 라오항공의 이용을 삼갈것을 권고하고 있다.
라오스에 사시는 한국교민들이나 라오스로 여행오시는분들중 지방여행시 조금 불편하시더라도 육상교통수단을 이용하시는 것이 좋을 것 같습니다.

라오스 인터넷감독위원회에서 인터넷사용지침 발표 (2000.10.27)
라오스정부기구인 인터넷감독위원회 (The National Internet Management Committee)에세는 라오스국내의 인터넷사용자에 대하여 사용지침을 발표하였는데
근거없는 소문 및 정부를 위해하는 내용이나 음란자료, 범죄를 유발시키는 자료, 왜곡된 자료등을 올리는 사용자는 법에 따라 경고(warned), 지도(educated), 색출(fined), 추방(expelled)의 강도로 조치할 것 임을 밝혔다. 아래는 정부가 발표한 세부조항으로 인터넷사용자들은 염두에 두셨으면 한다.
1.Lying, deceiving or persuading people inside or outside the country to protest against the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, or to destroy the peace, independence, democracy, unity and prosperity of the Lao PDR.
2.Backing or promoting activities that are violent, criminal, and unstable, disturbing the peace and happiness of the community.
3.Falsifying and propagating misleading news stories to create violence or encourage hatred, abhorrence, discord, or doubts among the public at home or abroad.
4.Exporting or importing any pornographic pictures, technical designs or other pictures which are prohibited in the Lao PDR or sensitive to national customs and copyright. All advertising of sexual services is banned.
5.Publishing national, military or other secrets identified in decrees or laws of the Lao PDR.
6.Publishing information that is incorrect and unacceptable, aiming to harm the honour and rights of individuals, groups and organisations.
7. Using names, pictures, signatures, voices, passwords, credit cards, personal documents and benefits of other people or organisations without permission.?
The notice states that if any individual and organisation contravenes this notice, they will be warned, educated, fined, expelled or prosecuted according to the law of the Lao PDR.
